Units and Number Format

Easson2D supports customizing the display units and number format of measurement results according to different measurement habits.

You can set:

  • The length unit
  • The length decimal places
  • The angle display mode
  • The angle decimal places

These settings mainly affect the display format of the software interface, the measurement data, and related output content.

Opening the Unit Settings

Click:

View → Unit Settings

to enter the unit and number format settings.

You can also quickly switch common length units using the unit switch button in the auxiliary toolbar.

Length Unit

Easson2D supports the following length units:

  • mm: millimeter
  • inch: inch
  • µm: micrometer

You can choose the appropriate unit according to the drawing or inspection requirements.

For example:

25.400 mm

after switching to inch, the corresponding value in inches is displayed.

Switching the unit only changes the display and output format; it does not change the actual measurement data stored internally.

Quickly Switching the Unit

The unit button in the auxiliary toolbar can quickly cycle through:

mm → inch → µm

This is suitable for temporarily viewing results in different units during measurement.

If you also need to set the decimal places, it is recommended to enter the "Unit Settings" window to adjust them.

Length Decimal Places

The decimal places of length measurement results can be set to:

0–5 digits

For example, the same measured value can be displayed as:

  • 12 mm
  • 12.3 mm
  • 12.35 mm
  • 12.345 mm
  • 12.3456 mm
  • 12.34567 mm

The decimal place setting only affects the display precision; it does not change the actual measurement calculation results.

In general, choose the appropriate decimal places according to the machine precision, drawing requirements, and report format.

Angle Display Modes

Angles can be displayed in two modes:

Decimal Degrees

For example:

45.256°

Suitable for direct numerical comparison and calculation.

Degrees, Minutes, and Seconds

For example:

45°15′22″

Suitable for drawings and inspection requirements that use the traditional angle notation.

You can select the angle display mode in the unit settings window, or use the related quick functions to switch.

Angle Decimal Places

When angles are displayed in decimal degrees, you can set:

0–5 decimal places

For example:

  • 45°
  • 45.2°
  • 45.26°
  • 45.256°

When using the degrees, minutes, and seconds display mode, the angle is shown in degrees, minutes, and seconds format, and the decimal place setting of decimal degrees is not used.

Effect on Data Display and Output

The unit and decimal place settings affect the display format of measurement results in the software, such as:

  • The geometry area
  • The data area
  • Measurement results
  • Reports
  • Excel output
  • Printed content

Therefore, if a customer requires inspection reports in a specified unit and with specified decimal places, it is recommended to complete the corresponding settings before formal measurement.

Usage Recommendations

You can choose the display format according to the actual inspection requirements.

For example:

General mechanical dimension measurement

you can use:

mm + 3 decimal places

For displays with higher resolution, you can increase the number of decimal places.

If the customer's drawing uses imperial units, you can switch to:

inch

If you need to view micrometer-level values directly, you can also switch to:

µm

For angles, you can choose according to the drawing convention:

decimal degrees or degrees, minutes, and seconds

Overall, these settings only change the way measurement results are displayed and do not change the actual measurement data inside Easson2D.
