Camera Control
Easson2D supports adjusting the common image parameters of Hikvision industrial cameras, including exposure, gain, Gamma, sharpness, color, white balance, and image orientation.
The parameter ranges supported by different camera models may vary, and the software reads the corresponding adjustable range according to the current camera.
Camera Status
The top of the camera settings window displays the current video acquisition status.
When acquisition is normal, the status area is shown in green and displays the current real-time frame rate, for example:
25.0 fps
If the camera has no normal video input, the status area is shown in red.
The current image resolution is displayed in the window title, for example:
HikCamera 4096×3000
Exposure
Exposure (us) sets the exposure time of the camera in microseconds.
In general:
Longer exposure → brighter image
Shorter exposure → darker image
The exposure modes include:
- Off: automatic exposure is disabled and the exposure value is set manually
- Once: performs automatic exposure once
- Continuous: continuous automatic exposure
After selecting Continuous, the exposure value is adjusted automatically by the camera, and manual exposure setting becomes temporarily unavailable.
For dynamic measurement or flying photography, an excessively long exposure time may increase motion blur, so it should be set according to the actual measurement speed and light source brightness.
Gain
Gain (dB) is used to enhance the brightness of the image output by the camera.
The modes also include:
- Off
- Once
- Continuous
In Continuous mode, the camera adjusts the gain automatically, and the interface also displays the Brightness parameter, which sets the target brightness for automatic gain.
In general, it is recommended to first obtain a suitable brightness through the light source and exposure, and then increase the gain moderately as needed.
An excessively high gain may increase image noise.
Gamma
Gamma adjusts the appearance of the mid-brightness area of the image.
Gamma needs to be enabled before use.
You can select:
- User: use a Gamma value set by the user
- sRGB: use the camera's sRGB Gamma curve
After selecting sRGB, there is no need to adjust the Gamma value manually.
Sharpness
Check:
Enable
to adjust the sharpness.
Increasing sharpness can make the image contours look clearer, but an excessively high setting may also make noise and edge enhancement more obvious.
For image measurement, it is recommended to adjust for clear edges without over-sharpening.
Hue and Saturation
For color images, you can enable and adjust:
Hue
which changes the overall color tendency of the image.
Saturation
which adjusts the intensity of the colors.
Higher saturation makes colors more vivid, while lower saturation makes them gradually fade.
If the main purpose is dimensional and contour measurement, these two parameters generally do not need frequent adjustment.
White Balance
White balance is used to correct color deviation caused by different light source conditions.
You can adjust:
- White balance red
- White balance green
- White balance blue
The white balance modes include:
- Off: adjust the red, green, and blue ratios manually
- Once: perform automatic white balance once
- Continuous: continuous automatic white balance
Usually, you can place a white or gray workpiece in the image area, then select Once to let the camera perform automatic white balance once.
After completion, the software reads the new red, green, and blue parameters and displays them in the interface.
Invert
Enable:
Invert
to reverse the brightness relationship of the image.
This function is applied to the displayed image by the software and does not modify the internal parameters of the camera.
It is generally not needed for normal measurement and can be used according to special observation requirements.
Horizontal Flip and Vertical Flip
You can use:
- Horizontal flip
- Vertical flip
to adjust the display orientation of the camera image.
If the camera installation direction causes the image to be inconsistent with the actual movement direction of the worktable, you can use the flip functions to correct it.
Horizontal and vertical flips directly use the camera's own mirror functions.
Restoring the Saved Settings
Click:
Default
The software re-reads the saved camera configuration and reapplies these parameters to the current camera.
Note that:
"Default" does not restore the camera to factory settings, but restores the camera parameters previously saved by the software.
If you have just made temporary changes and want to return to the original configuration, you can use this button.
Parameter Saving
The camera parameters adjusted by the user are automatically saved in the software configuration.
After closing the camera settings window, the current parameters are saved; the next time the camera starts, Easson2D automatically reads and reapplies these settings.
Therefore, under normal circumstances, after adjusting the camera once, there is no need to set it up again every time the software starts.
Recommended Adjustment Order
If the image effect needs to be readjusted, follow:
Light source → Exposure → Gain → White balance → Gamma → Sharpness → Hue / Saturation
For image measurement, give priority to ensuring:
suitable brightness, no overexposure, low noise, and clear edges.
Color parameters are mainly used to improve the viewing effect, while exposure, gain, and sharpness are usually more important for measurement image quality.
