Flatness Measurement

Laser flatness measurement in Easson2D evaluates the flatness of a workpiece surface using multiple laser measurement points.

During measurement, height data must be acquired at multiple positions on the same measured surface. After the points are acquired, the software calculates flatness from these points and generates the corresponding flatness element.

1. Select Flatness Measurement

Click:

Laser Measurement → Flatness Measurement

to enter the laser flatness measurement state.

2. Move the Laser to the Measured Surface

Move the laser head above the workpiece surface to be measured.

Adjust the machine position so that the current measured position is within the effective measurement range of the laser sensor.

3. Acquire Multiple Measurement Points on the Surface

Acquire points at different positions on the measured surface.

Flatness measurement requires:

At least 4 measurement points

At each measurement position, it is recommended to operate in the following order:

Zero Return → Acquire Point

After completing one position, move to other positions on the surface and continue measuring.

To make the measurement result more representative of the entire surface, it is recommended to spread the points across different positions rather than concentrating them in one small area.

For example, measure at:

  • The edges of the surface
  • The middle area
  • Positions that are prone to deformation

4. Complete the Measurement and Generate the Flatness Element

After acquiring at least 4 measurement points, right-click:

in the image area or the geometry area

to end the current measurement.

Easson2D calculates flatness from the laser measurement points already acquired and generates the corresponding flatness element.

Basic Workflow

Laser flatness measurement can be summarized as:

Laser Measurement → Flatness Measurement → Move into the measurement range of the measured surface → Zero Return → Acquire Point → Move to other positions and continue zero return and point acquisition → Acquire at least 4 points → Right-click in the image area or the geometry area → A flatness element is generated automatically

Point Acquisition Recommendations

For a more representative flatness result, it is recommended to:

  • Acquire at least 4 valid measurement points
  • Spread the measurement points across the entire measured area
  • Increase the number of measurement points appropriately for larger surfaces
  • Avoid concentrating all points in a local area
  • Perform "Zero Return" before each point acquisition
  • Ensure each measurement position is within the effective laser detection range

If the measured surface is large, use an edge points + center points approach so that the measurement data better reflects the actual state of the entire surface.

To improve measurement stability, it is recommended that after moving to each new measurement position, first click:

Zero Return

and then click:

Acquire Point

That is:

Move to the measurement position → Zero Return → Acquire Point

Using the same operation for every measurement point helps produce more consistent flatness measurement results.
