Probe Calibration

Before using the probe for formal measurement, the probe must be calibrated first.

Easson2D compensates for probe contact positions through the reference probe diameter. Although the probe itself has a nominal diameter, such as 3 mm, it is still recommended to calibrate using a standard with known dimensions during actual use, so that probe measurement results match the standard dimensions.

1. Open Probe Settings

Click the top menu:

Probe → Probe Settings

to access probe-related settings.

In the probe settings, find:

Reference Probe Diameter

Click it to enter the reference diameter of the probe currently in use.

2. Enter the Probe's Actual Diameter

First, enter an initial value based on the actual specifications of the current probe.

For example, when using a probe with a diameter of:

3 mm

first set the reference probe diameter to:

3.000 mm

This value serves as the initial value for subsequent calibration.

3. Measure a Standard

Prepare a standard with known dimensions.

For example, a standard dimension of:

50.000 mm

Use Easson2D's Horizontal Circle function to measure the standard with the probe, and observe the final measurement result.

4. Compare the Measured Value with the Standard Value

Compare the probe measurement result with the standard's known dimension.

For example:

Standard dimension:

50.000 mm

Actual measurement:

49.980 mm

This indicates that the current measurement result is smaller than the standard dimension.

In this case, return to the probe settings, appropriately decrease the reference probe diameter, then measure again.

5. Adjust the Reference Probe Diameter

Gradually adjust the reference probe diameter based on the measurement results.

If:

The measured value is smaller than the standard value

then appropriately:

Decrease the reference probe diameter

After the change, measure the same standard again using the horizontal circle function and observe the new measurement result.

Do not change the value by a large amount at once. It is recommended to fine-tune gradually so that the appropriate reference probe diameter is easier to find.

6. Repeat Measurement and Adjustment

Probe calibration usually requires repeating:

Measure the standard → check the result → adjust the reference probe diameter → measure again

After multiple adjustments, the horizontal circle measurement result gradually approaches the standard's known dimension.

For example:

Standard dimension: 50.000 mm

First measurement: 49.980 mm → adjust the reference probe diameter

Second measurement: 49.994 mm → continue fine-tuning

Third measurement: 50.000 mm

When the measurement result reaches the standard dimension or meets the current calibration requirements, the probe calibration is complete.

Calibration Workflow

The entire probe calibration process can be summarized as:

Probe → Probe Settings → Enter the reference probe diameter → Measure the standard with the horizontal circle → Compare the measured value with the standard value → Adjust the reference probe diameter → Measure again → Repeat adjustment until the result reaches the standard value

After Calibration

After the reference probe diameter is calibrated, keep using the current calibrated probe settings for subsequent measurements.

You can then use the probe for measurements such as points, lines, circles, heights, flatness, and cylinders.
